I thought he was in debt up to his eyeballs, due to his excessive buying at Harrods and that his last tour was meant to pay for that debt?

Actually most of those people end up broke and in serious debt. I see this in everyday life too. It seems that once most get a bit rich than they live way beyond their means even if it is good. Very very few people have the kind of wealth that some of these peoples lifestyles require. Even the banks live beyond their means as evidenced by the economy getting fucked up.
