Thread: Moral Disapproval ...

  1. #1

    Arrow Moral Disapproval ...

"Moral disapproval of a group cannot be a legitimate governmental interest under the Equal Protection Clause"

-- said Justice Sandra Day O'Connor of the US Supreme Court re equal marriage rights of gay couples.

It struck a chord with me :

Will Ireland ever reach a social maturity, where " Moral disapproval of a group (escorts/clients ?)

will not be grounds for legistlation against said group ?

    ...

    The answer is simple.
Not for a very long time Steph as the influence of the church still resonates strong not just within the people but with the government aswell.

    Hi Stephanie,
Although it should, I honestly can't see it happening in my lifetime.

I think the Irish public would be more open and liberal in their views about such change. However, I believe it will take some very courageous escorts and clients to raise their head above the parapet and lead the charge against our Moral Majority. I believe the influence of the Catholic Church has never been weaker and this is the time when change may be possible

Morality has been hijacked by religion.

I am afraid I simply cannot see an issue with two consenting adults spending time together.

    That's a scary thought.

Seems so wrong, that in this day and age, a modern Society should be so resistant to such change.. (and Ireland is not only one)

    I agree.

There are already a handful of Escorts who have taken it upon themselves to try to make a difference.

What should be the next step ? How could some courageous clients get involved, to bring that change ?

I'd be pretty sure there are more than a handful of escorts trying to make a difference. Some just don't do it for
public acclaim or their 15 minutes of "fame".

It seems to me that Irish people are all lovely & very open minded but somehow Irish law is not like this. Shame.
