Many service industries in both UK & ROI employ other EU nationals, who pay tax to either the UK or ROI governments.
Some may only be working for relatively short periods of time, others for longer but they are all registered for tax purposes.
Well, in my industry anyway. If they weren't registered, Inland Revenue would come down on the employer as well as the employee.
How much tax do you pay in Ireland? Does it differ from Country to Country or depending on what your business is? Someone once told me that you pay 13% if it is a service, as apposed to 20% if you sell something. I've not looked it up yet to see if they were right, but woopeedoo if they are. (That is for the UK by the way).

That's VAT your talkin about. VAT is only paid if you earn over a certain threshold think it's around the €70,000 per annum mark. In Ireland VAT on services is 13 1/2 % & 21% on wat u sell. But VAT is more for companies.
better to keep under VAT threshold & just pay your PAYE & your stamps. And your Universal Charge which is a percentage of your earnings per annum.
If you don't like filling out your tax returns yourself just employ an accountant. Altho my word of advise is to know wats wat yourself as a crappy accountant can get you into a hell of a lot of trouble. I'm speaking from experience here & still paying off a huge bill!! Also if you buy property it will really bring the eye on you. Always be able to account for wat u have or the revenue can make your life very miserable indeed.

What would the consequences of being registered as an escort, if and when the swedish model is implemented? Not only on the escort but her clients aswell.

I heard that there was some kind of shadow tax collection system in the UK, where people who don't exactly want the officals know what they do, can pay tax without having to answer too many questions.
People with no visible source of income and yet are seen living large are kind of asking for an audit. In Ireland where communities are smaller, such people would be turned in by their neighbours

I cannot answer that properly as I genuinely don't know. However one would assume that since even under "The Swedish Model" sex workers themselves won't be criminalised a person registered as an escort would not be liable to troubles themselves. On the other hand someone posted on this thread that under TSM sex work earnings will be untaxable?!

What I was wondering was , would the revenue pass information to other authorities, like the guards. If a lady is registered as an escort, the guards would probably have an address and be able to monitor the premises.

I guess that is a possibility although I don't see it happening. I think the best thing is to register under a guise occupation

I'm always getting TAX and VAT mixed up and saying the one when I mean the other. I used to voluntarily pay VAT with my old business as I used to buy from the USA. It actually did me quite well as they ended up giving me money towards the end, as most of my suppliers went bust and I was paying through the nose for dropship services, hence I stopped.

I do my own book keeping, which hurts my head, but it also makes me use my brain, which often feels redundant, so not a bad thing. I do need to read up though, as things do change, like the amount per mile you can claim on travel. I think that has gone up 5p to 45p pm. It all helps
