Default Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality

I am not sure what is going to happen today to be perfectly honest, if there is indeed going to be any hearing at all. We do know that the committee will be hearing out the opinions of certain sex workers today at 2pm, but this is apparently going to be private, unrecorded and won't even have a transcript written up afterwards

Anyway, the best of luck to those attending

Let's keep our eyes peeled for whatever comes today. The hearing can be seen here:

By the sound of it the girls are speaking totally off the record. No record, no transcript,..... talk about equal treatment!!

I nevertheless wish them well and hope it goes great.

Unfortunately Simon, the sex workers will be heard but not actually listened to....... The Committe have their recommendation already thought-out - any sex worker testimony is only an exercise in po-faced hypocrisy . Thankfully , however , as seen by Dublin City Council when the opportunity for actual evidence-based debate occurs ,it can be seen that indeed this Swedish emperor has no clothes......

Love the enthusiasm JC ,but when you read the transcripts of previous meetings and the general lack of challenge towards the Swedish Model claims ,it only confirms what many think - whitewash . The Committee are fully familiar with the negative effects of the Model on swedish sex workers (or ahem, victims) via Pye Jakobsson in the October Conference but apparently, she doesn't know as much about swedish sex workers compared to say,Labour Party Women or the IMO. As DCC showed, a bit of actual debate isn't such a bad thing when trying to arrive at the best environment for prostitutes but we can't be having that, can we? Oh yeah , and let's not have any transcript available for public consumption - No , that would be ahem , inappropriate, don't you know.
