Thread: OraQuick at home HIV test is now available ..

  1. #1

Exclamation OraQuick at home HIV test is now available ..

..in the States, at most convenience/drug stores for 40$. No prescription or else needed...

Potentially saving countless lives by early detection and early treatment. Potentially preventing transmission to a partner,

preventing transmission to the unborn child..

How long before available in Ireland ?

    Or is it ? xx
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

My Dr mentioned these kits to me when I was last tested and he mentioned that these kits are not 100% reliable so its still best to visit the clinic for this type of testing.

There is a quick hiv test available in clinics now also however they do not cover the full detection period.

While these test kits are useful they still are not as good as the clinic xx

Yes, your doctor is correct. The test is only 92% accurate in detecting a Positive , and will give you a false positive 1 out of 5000.

Condoms are not a 100% either, nor are Birth Control Pills, yet they are widely used and hugely beneficial .

Nothing should , nothing can replace a visit to the clinic (or your private doc) , but using all tools available is better than not xx

Might there be people out there who may be reluctant to go to a clinic, but might use a mouth swab in

the privacy of their own home ? The more info and more tools , the better... in my very humble opinion xx

Edit : just read the last part of your post, so it seems we are in agreement .

Yes we are inagreement over these tests usefulness the Dr seemed to have concerns not only about the 92% detection rate but something about the detection period I am not 100% sure what he told me exactly but just recall something about the period that it was not covering the same period as the normal tests.

The reason I had this conversation is I visit regularly to this clinic and he asked me if I wanted the instant test and exlplained to me about the detection period not being as good as the normal test so I opted not to have this test based on those reasons. This then brought us onto discussing the ones on sale on the internet.

I think any tools for health are useful and I am sure that in the next couple of years these do it at home kits will be perfected its like anything new that comes onto the market they just take time to perfect them.

I got one for friend a few years ago, mail order...no problem...think it cost about $40 then.

You do know these kits are made here...I knew someone who worked at the factory.

perhaps punters will insist on only being with escorts who are cerificated hiv free? Show me your home testing result?

the point of the home tests can only be a matter of personal conscience or will full disclosure of being HIV positive prior to sex ensure further quasi medical procedures?

Hmm I dont think clients should need to see anything like this as there is no bareback taking place.

In fairness I think Steph started this thread to be helpful to people who are shy to visit the clinics. x
