Since it does have relevance to the topic, why do some Americans think this? Is it a religious concept where God would not allow a woman to become pregnant due to rape so the body (God' creation) shuts down?

Hahaha! I think the reason that these things (and the gun issue) get so much publicity is down to WHO is saying it. If Eddie from Wall Mart came out and said it at the saloon then no-one would care. The fact that prospective senators and judges say it is more worrying. This shows that supposedly intelligent people think it, and maybe even worse, they think it is acceptable to say it (indicating support, at least in their own local political circles)
That's why I am interested in WHY they believe this

IQ tests are subjective and don't accommodate for cultural differences.
For example, in England (for example) we would consider this as 'upstairs':
And this 'donwstairs':
In other cultures, this would be the other way round, but this is perceived to us as such because we read from left to right.
IQ tests are culturally specific, so I wouldn't take them as gospel.
