The chemical makeup of petroleum jelly changes after a prolonged time after being exposed to air hence why the expiration date, not harmful but not recommended for sensitive parts of the body either..

I'd say go ahead and use it Banjaxed .Five years out of date is nothing to worry about. You could use the money you save to buy savlon for the rash .
Axle grease makes an excellent substitute for Vaseline by the way.

Who the hell has 5 year old Vaseline laying around? Banjaxed my boy, you need to get to pulling, cause if that isn't proof you are inexperienced, nothing is?

Do we really need to get into technicalities? One word: saliva or occassionally two words, olive oil.

Inexperience combined with a fear of my own body, I do need a lot more of somethings and pulling is one of those!

From the mixed views, it looks like it will be back to the bottle of cooking oil for now.

Don't worry Banjaxed, I have a rule in life:

If it doesn't move but it should, use WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't use double-sided sticky tape. That'll sort you, lad

It all depends on what the last thing you stuck in the jar was....... if it was your finger then it depends on what was the last thing your finger was touching.

Go on splash out it's xmas buy a new tub, sure the last one must of lasted you at least 5 years

If you need a hammer to break the crust on the top Banjaxed I would recommend dumping it.
