Default Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice hearings at 2pm

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality will be holding a public hearing on prostitution legislation at 2pm today in Committee Room 2.

It can be viewed online at www.oireachtascommittees.tv

Last summer, the Minister for Justice and Equality referred a discussion document on the future direction of Prostitution Legislation to the Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality. In this regard, the Committee invited written submissions from interested groups or individuals in relation to this Review. The Committee received more than 850 submissions.

Among those attending tomorrow’s meeting are: Dr Gillian Wylie, TCD and Dr Eilís Ward, NUI Galway; and representatives from: Act to Prevent Trafficking (APT); Barnardos; Immigrant Council of Ireland (ICI); Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO); Irish Medical Organisation (IMO); Irish Immigrant Support Centre (NASC); National Women's Council of Ireland (NWCI); One in Four; and Ruhama.

Very important that sex workers (and their clients) get the chance to see the proceedings they are excluded from.

The Flash link is down, so it requires Windows Media Player or other to function.

    Committee Room 2 at 2pm

The Committee appears to have made the decision to meet in private, contrary to their own press release yesterday. What is there to hide?

I was thinking the same thing!

Maybe it's private just for the first point, so I'll keep an eye on it.

There are no limits to lengths which some will go to subvert the democratic process.

I sincerely do hope that it will only be private for parts, given their press release to the contrary and failure to notify.

    Me no happy:
