Interview with a Punter

Rachel : How did you start visiting escorts?
Mister X : Late 2011 due to extreme stress at work it was recommended to me that I go for a relaxing massage to help distress. I did this a number of times, in genuine "normal" massage places. One evening when looking up somewhere closer to home for a massage I found a website advertising a "body to body" massage. I researched this and discovered it was a massage done topless with the woman's breasts being the main massage tool. I contacted the website owner and after a few massages by email to and from them I decided to make an appointment.

Sex for whatever reasons was missing from my life at the time and work left me far too busy to even consider a relationship with a woman, and I suppose the allure of having some form of sexual contact with someone with no strings attached was too string for me to resist. I had such a wonderful time that I decided to leave a review for this lady. I registered as a client on a popular website that escorts advertise on and left my review.

After joining the site I discovered some advertisers on there that seemed like ladies I would love to meet. I made contact, exchanged quite a few messages and then a month after the body to body massage I met my second escort. The rest as they say .......

Rachel : How do you see Irish society attitude regarding punting?
Mister X : Irish society pretends it is modern but when confronted by something of a sexual nature it subconsciously reverts back to its ingrained catholic dominated attitude of prudishness, based on the the "sex is shame" that was beaten into us as a nation in the past.

Rachel : Do you think the escorts you have met were doing the job on free will / choice?
Mister X : Thankfully yes. Each and every one of them engaged in online conversations with me long before I would ever make a booking to visit them. In some ways I think this was my own way of "vetting" the ladies before meeting them (apologies if this seems crude). It was just to ensure that they were genuine.

Rachel : Two independent escorts is it not legal and they can get in troubles for sharing accommodation. Do you think it is right?
Mister X : No, it's not right. Especially when you consider the alternative of an escort living alone meaning that they are far more at risk of the darker side of the minority of clients who give the rest of clients a bad name.

Rachel : If you think an escort is being abused would you ring the police?
Mister X : I would ring the police if anyone was being abused, escort or not.

Rachel : Would you like to have the freedom to ring the police and report a situation without being judge / bad treated / criminalized for seeing escort/s?
Mister X : Of course. People can ring the Garda confidential line (1800 666 111), but as most know, the Gardai cannot proceed in most cases unless you break your anonymity and become an identifiable witness, therefore risking your career, family, future job prospects etc etc, especially after being cross examined by an over zealous barrister.

Rachel : What would you do if sex without condom it is offered by an escort?
Mister X : Refuse.Safe sex is a just for both parties. This applies to any sexual intercourse anywhere, not just clients and escorts.


Rachel : How do you feel about the Swedish model, meaning criminalize you for buying sex from sex workers who do nothing illegal?
Mister X : My knowledge of the Swedish model is not enough to give a proper answer to, but to criminalize clients OR escorts for engaging in sexual practises seems to me personally to be slightly draconian. If the legal system cannot cope with the current laws in this state, I cannot see how new laws will be implemented / enforced.

Rachel: Do you think it is time to move on and people should be more open minded?
Mister X : Some people have already moved on, but as always, the pioneers of any change no matter what it is, will always be treated with suspicion.
I generally think that attitudes do need to change, but that change should come without radicalism. It should be brought about by open discussion.
