jeez this thread took ages to read from start to finish and there is a lot of good viewpoints and counter arguements going on, I would just like to throw in my tuppence worth.
I myself am an self-employed construction worker, I pay my taxes I pay for my advertising, and occasionally if a big job comes up I employ others to assist me, as mentioned before thats business.
I am also an agency worker, with the construction buisness being as poor as it is it means not much going on locally so i registered with a national construction agency and they contact me when they get work.
Now - they could ring me in the morning and say 'Kaz there is a job in Dublin starting tomorrow that will last 2 weeks'
It's now up to me to say whether or not I want to take the job.
if I take that job they then charge that company appriox 46 Euro/hr for my services and then pay me 22 Euro/hr on top of which they then give me travel expenses. Now that might seem like a big cut for them but out of the 24 Euro/hr they take they then have to pay my PRSI, Liability Insuarance, Pension Contribution, wages to their own staff to find me the work
BUT at the end of the day it is MY choice to do the job and this is in my view the problem with escorting agencies, everyone has been blinded by Ruhama's media spin that all agencies force their workers,
yes there are the criminal ones but there are also I presume some that do look after the ladies that work for them
don't know if this helps any way with the arguement
KAZ
P.S the RTE Primetime report called E.I an escorting agency so none of you are independent in the irish medias view (not mine)

The RTE Primetime report is mistaken if they think we are ALL working for EI through as Agency. I don't know about others, but I have only ever handed over money when they have provided me with a service, beyond that they just get to put up with me posting.
Kazgar you have shown how a good Agency works. They pay all the legal requirements and pay in towards a pension scheme. I doubt there are many Escort Agencies that do that here or in the UK. We have no provision for our future, unless we buy into it our selves and this is difficult to do when you have no idea how much you will earn from one week to the next. I imagine that goes for all regardless of if they are Independent or Agency.
Please also bear in mind the actual title of the thread. Your post was very interesting, but it does not go anywhere near answering the actual question raised. What are your opinions on that? Do you class yourself as self employed when you are working for yourself and employed through the agency when you are working for them, or is there a blanket term?

I would say that if you have to ASK what an independent is then you are not one!
