This has been highlighted in another thread becuase the transgender man is apparently HIV positive.
The trafficking bit is a fix I'm afraid to say.
The transgender man and the women were arrested and charged with brothel keeping offences. Hence I'll bet their lawyer asked them to plead that they had been trafficked!
Because it you're trafficked, then by default you can't be a brothel keeper!!
It's a viscious circle really. Ruhama and co must be laughing their evil asses off! They have constantly opposed any relaxation in the law to allow two escorts to work together. Escorts obviously need to put their safety first, so will continue to work and live together (as they should).
So when arrested unfairly on "brothel" charges, the only way escorts can get out of this will be to claim they are victims of trafficking! And of course that just plays into the hands of Ruhama that all escorts are trafficked and coerced!

Exactly what I think too Rachel!
They claimed to be trafficked to get out of the brothel keeping charge. I don't blame them it was a smart lie.
And claiming he has HIV? That was just to engender the sympathy of the judge. Obviously it is a tragedy when someone is forced into prostitution and develops HIV as a result of being forced to have unprotected sex. SO the judge was bound to be sympathetic. And he let both the transgender man and the female escort off. (The woman incidentally claimed she had had a stroke!!!!)
I can understand why the pair did the above and give them full credit for evading our stupid draconian laws!
However, as I've alluded to above, this is just playing into the hands of Ruhama. Now any girls being charged with brothel keeping will claim to be trafficked in order to get off the charges. Which will only skew the figures on any trafficking for prostitution into Ireland.

You have so hit the nail on the head Morpheus...and that is the reason this imaginary "trafficking epidemic" took hold in the first place...
It's like ancient Rome, where if you made a small, affordable sacrifice to the Emperor you were sent home, and if you refused you were sent over the rainbow bridge in any one of a variety of well choreographed ways to entertain the populace.
Claim to be trafficked and you can pass on your way in peace (might even get a few quid from a TORL member org if you are uxorious enough) claim to be independent and you are convicted of brothel keeping...
...and who cares about the truth?

Ok, I'm going to play the Devil's Advocate here. I can see the reason why Ruhama did not seek repeal or amendment of the section on brothel keeping, as in effect it would be even more impossible to tell who is trafficked or part of organised prostitution once more than one woman can work from one premises legally. The obvious intention behind the section was to avoid a nuisance of a brothel in communities, whether of independents or agencies under the control of organised criminals, and little thought was given to the women themselves.
