[SIZE=4]Q1. The boss of a storage warehouse had just arrived at work when one of his employees burst into his office. The man explained that while asleep the previous night he had dreamed that one of the stored boxes contained a bomb that would explode at two p.m. causing a terrible fire. The boss was sceptical but agreed to investigate. After a search, a bomb was found in the area foreseen in the man’s dream. The police were called, the bomb defused, and a tragedy averted. Afterwards, the boss thanked the employee sincerely and then fired him.
The sacked man had not planted the bomb, and his prophetic dream had saved the warehouse from destruction. Yet the manager was right to fire him. How could that be so?
Q2. Mrs. Jones wanted a new house. She very much liked to see the sun shining into a room, so she instructed the builders to construct a house of which all four walls face south. After much thought, the builder managed to erect just such a house. How did he do it?
Q3. Two trucks have to carry the same heavy loads across a desert. One is an older truck with an older driver, Joe, who knows his way to the village that is their destination.
The other truck is more modern, but it’s driver, Jim, does not know the way. They agree that the modern truck will follow the older one. Unfortunately, Jim has forgotten to fill up with fuel. By the time he does this, the first truck is well out of sight. However, it has left very clear tracks in the sand, and Jim follows them.
After some time, the tracks start to become less and less clear. Eventually, they disappear altogether. This surprises Jim, because there is no wind to cover the tracks and his own tracks are still very clear. There is no sign of the other truck, but in due course a Bedouin on a camel arrives, and, with his help, Jim gets to the village. There, he meets Joe and discovers the reason why the tracks disappeared. What was it?
