    The Answers

Q1. Marjorie Halcrow Erskine of Chirnside, Scotland, apparently died in 1674. She was buried in a shallow grave by a sexton who was intent upon returning later to steal her jewellery. While the thieving sexton was trying to cut off her finger to appropriate the ring, she awoke. In her additional years of life following the burial, she went to give birth to and raise two sons. No one knows what happened to the sexton.

Q2. The man was instaling tiles in the bathroom. The new bathtub was plastic and moved sightly when filed with water. He filled the tub with water to see where it lined up with the tile when full. This way, he could extend the grouting to the very edge of the bathtub and it would not crack or leave a gap when the tub was full.

Q3. The woman was driving her car alone at night. She felt drowsy and was concerned about falling asleep at the wheel. She trapped the ends of her long hair in the window. There was no discomfort if she kept her head up, but if she nodded off and her head slumped, the painful tug on her hair would wake her up.

Q4. Herve Bernardon was a shepherd in the Hautes Alpes region of France. He killed a wolf that had been preying on his sheep. Wolves had been exterminated in France in the 1920s but had started to reappear from Italy in the late 1990s. They are now a protected species.

Q5. The battle of Waterloo in 1815 was a very close affair. At one point, the French cavalry under Marshal Ney overran the British guns in the centre of Wellington's position. They usually carried headless nails with them to spike enemy guns. The nails were hammered into the fuse holes of the cannons to make them unusable. But the men with the nails had been killed in the attack and no nails could be found. The British cavalry then drove the French back. When Napoleon's Old Guard infantry launched their big attack, the British guns were used with deadly effect, and Napoleon was lost.

Q6. The road was the sixth road off Route 66 and was designated 666. Due to superstition it was built as a short dead end.
