Thread: A legacy of shame?

    Default A legacy of shame?

I have just finished reading the final reports on the Industrial Schools in Ireland. A sadder, more sickening affair it is hard to find, and it would seem the Vatican is not prepared to pay for past mistakes. What is your take on this? Is this the final toll for the Catholic Church in Ireland? Do you still have faith in men of the cloth? How can the will of the church be upheld while this issue is unanswered?

Even after the Ryan and Murphy reports which highlight the failings of the state to protect children and the carry on in the
Magdeline Laundries (child/slave labour) putting the horrendous, disgusting clerical abuse of children, Ireland still STILL hasn't
gotten the child referendum and it's been years on the agenda, oh and the HSE not knowing how many children died in it's care.
One would come to the conclusion that Ireland is really really bad at protecting children.

This has to change. To even begin to make repairs they must admit and pay.

I don't really link youtube videos but thought this was really something to view an emotional man speaking about his experience

This still makes the hairs on my neck stand up and get teary eyes

I'm going to have to come back to it in the morning. It's a lot to read and digest.
Sadistic cruelty inflicted on children isn't the best bedtime reading.

The poor, poor man, and he is only one. He deserves acknowledgement and an apology at the least.
