    Unhappy 36 million

The final cost of the state visits of the Queen and Obama has been finally calculated and has
come to the not inconsiderable sum of 36 million euro
The money is gone, the Queen is gone, Obama is gone and this much lauded tourism
spin off has yet to materalise
Is it another case of the party is over yet again, and we the poor peasants are left to foot
    the bill

The original budgeted cost was supposed to be around 22 million.

More than 60% over budget. If that happened in private industry, someone would be sacked.

As for the tourism spin off, I doubt they expected it to happen this quick anyway.

I don't have a problem with the cost, because ofcourse you do a cost-benefit analysis of these kinds of things and then see if it will be profitable in the end. The amount of airtime this has caused outside of Ireland and the amount of people this has reached, could not have been bought for 38 million euro and this is before you even take into consideration the added amount of tourists etc. No what really pisses me off about all this is that the calculated cost was 20 million euro. The minister for Justice thought a couple of weeks ago that the bill would come to about 20 million and it turned out to be almost double that. Do these fuckwits know nothing about budgets, keeping said budgets etc.? We need much more accountability for this kind of fuck-ups, but once again fuck all will be done with those morons having done these calculations. No wonder this country has gone the way it has.

Granted they messed up the budget and that is unforgivable but at least the money will be spent in Ireland by Irish people working on the front lines. All of this money would of been spent on extra hours for the Guards, Army, Council Cleaning Staff etc. this is the same as a €36mil injection into the economy so in a way in't not the worst thing that they could of spent the cash on.
