    Default Manners...

I'm beginning to think simple manners are almost extinct in society today. How difficult is it to say 'please' or 'thank you'? I was around the shops today and was buying a DVD in HMV (no, it was not a porn DVD. Mainly cos I couldn't find any there. HMV used to do a fair few decent ones but... Ok I'm already off topic on my own thread, ffs).

Anyways, I handed her (the shop assistant) the DVD and bla bla bla... She handed it to be with my change, I said thanks as I usually do, but not a word of thanks from her. Aren't we supposed to thank customers in the hopes that they'll come back and buy more? Not this one. Soon as she handed it back to me... Actually come to think of it she didn't hand it to me, she stuck it all in the bag and left it on the counter before going back to filing her nails.

Had relatives over a few days ago for dinner, a nice feckin' dinner and all it was. Did any one of them say thanks? No. Did any one of them say the food was nice, or even just edible??? Nope. Did they criticize everything from the colour of the table to the tea brand? You bet your ass they did. They ain't young either, all 50+ at least. In fact I don't think I've ever gotten a single hint of appreciation or gratitude in any of the things I've done for them over the years.

Now let me talk about you lot... Actually ye're all ok I guess (with certain exceptions) Now, serious... Maybe I was brought up to be too polite, but quite frankly a little manners goes a long way surely? We're bound to have hover cars within the next 50-100 years or so right? So surely a simple please, welcome and thank you isn't too complex when we've sent hundreds of little yokes, nuts and bolts flying above our atmosphere to make our lives that bit brighter? FFS it ain't rocket science!

Now I'm sure I've bored you all enough at this stage, so here's something for ye all to get excited over (excuse the pun).

Ah yes you were trying to confuse us with the pics , which are quite enchanting by the way .
Notice how many thanked you for said pics , and didn't give a bollix as to what you were trying to portray in your post .
But the essence of such is lost on us . But you have my sympathy as what you say is quite true .oh have I mentioned your pics are nice actually they are rather fetching .: lol

Sadly LDM its a generation thing,I was brought up to say please and thank you,and no I am not quite yet in Victor Meldrew's age bracket, there is an awful lot of the younger generation with a very bad attitude, that said the rest of them are not so bad.

    I'm not sure it's a generation thing.
I think it's more to do with the Irish mentality over the last ten or so years that we've become too full of our own self importance to say please and thank you anymore.
It's one of my pet peeves amongst others that shop assistants don't say please and thank you or seem more interested in what their friends are doing that night than actually serving you!

I think I'm getting grumpy in my old age!!

    Thanks for listening!!
