apparently, the italian police are prosecuting her for slander because
she said at the trial they hit her around the head during interrogation (sounds plausable)
and now feel slandered. give the girl a break FFS!

it's terrible what happened to Meredith Karcher, but unless you convict
the correct perpetrator, a futher injustice in done.

I suppose you can say innocent until proven guilty. Grannted she has an appeal pending, but you can't really say for certain that she's innocent. I persoanlly would reserve judgement until the outcome of the appeal.

agreed, no one can say shes innocent. 'innocent until proven guilty' is
a nice PC line though. what cops say about people has clout. think about it,
doesn't a court appearance try to suggest guilt about a defendant?

The nature of the justice system, even in the most civilised society is flawed. innocent people are often jailed. We are not free from it here either. There is a great line in the musical Pickwick..British justice has prevailed, innocent men are often jailed, but the system's never failed.... I personally believe the police forces are "lazy" in investigating crime....example statistically 85 % of domestic killings are by the spouse...so if, God Forbid, one of our partners was found dead in suspicious circumstances, the cops will say there's an 85 per cent chance it was the partner and then they will make the evidence fit, ignoring the size 12 footprint outside the back door. As a society our whole crime and punishment system needs overhauling and we need a debate about the nature of punishment and rehabilitation. Rant over. If she is innocent, my heart goes out to her, if not then I hope the system works for her and her rehabilitation is swift.

you know a good bit about the case, but her defence council are
unhappy with the way evidence was collected. although marijuana
is deemed against the law (by people who have not used it), it's affects

well 3 months has passed since i started this thread,
but i'll bet it felt longer for those in jail.

the prosecuters wanted the sentence increased to full life?

Thanks Van Patten. Excellent summary (in your original post). I've learned more from your summary than listening to snippets of news regarding the case.

Mind you I'm sure many of us will be guilty of some if not more of the above so called unsavoury background! For starters I'm an escort client! Wow betide me should I ever be falsely accused of such a crime and my escorting activites be made known - given the prejudices people (jurers) have.

I've personally have no opinion on whether Amanda is guilty of not. But the results of her appeal will be out in the next hour.
