    Default Relationships and Different Cultures

Does anyone know much about different cultures mixing ? I for one know f-all about it. I am referring to different races, religions, colours, creeds, ethnic groups etc. etc. etc., and whether they mix together in friendships, relationships and in casual sexual scenarios or do the tend more to stick just to their own.

I guess this becomes relevant for Ireland only over the last 10 years or so with the massive influx of immigrants from Eastern Europe. Yet I know of only one single case where an Irish friend of mine hooked up with a Polish immigrant girl and got married.

The English scene is of course far more developed because they've had a very multi cultural society for years. But I don't know much about it .... there's a strong middle eastern and Indian presence in England, as well as Jewish and other communities. But do they prefer to stick to their own or do they actually mix ?

I know a few folks that have dated and settled with other cultures/peoples. Its quite comman actually.

An Irish guy with a Polish lady.
An Irish guy with a French lady.
An Irish lady with an Angolan gent.
An Irish lady with a Hungarian gent.
    And so on...

I've dated a few people from other places too. A Finn, a couple of French ladies and I'm currently chasing another east european girl.

I live in London where attitudes in general are rather nonchalant on the whole matter and inter cultural/racial relationships are common. Although some are more socially acceptable. For example most people wouldn't bat an eye lid to see a black man with a white woman but a black woman with a white man is much more uncommon and is more unusual.

In my experience when people first arrive in a new country they tend to be drawn to people that are of similar backgrounds to the for language reasons, religion, culture etc. This is understandable. When I moved to Paris I spent all my time with Londoners till I realised the need to integrate.

I have found the attitudes in Ireland to be somewhat more backwards. I had never experienced racism before like I did when i first came and I find that certain people believe to date outside of your race/religion is taboo. I have even had a client tell me he didn't want to review me as they didn't want people to know they had slept with a black woman!

Obviously not all Irish people take the same view and things will change over time but I have noticed a big difference

What a lovely client Amber !
Must admit I also find Ireland very backdated in this respect coming from the Uk,where you quite rightly say has a more multi-racial society. Alot of ethnic people do tend to congregate into certain areas, (like the Irish in the 60s/ 70s and as in the States), especially if there is a language barrier, thus in London, you'll find large Indian, area, Jewish etc etc. However, some percentage do assimulate into the general population so you do get a mix of ethnic diversitys. Agree with Amber, some seem more acceptable than others. My friend use to go out with a coloured girl, got a whole load of abuse from both the white and coloured community.

On the money. But things like that happen all the time. People feel the need to hide things they consider taboo like seeing a black woman or a TS Lady to name just two.

True and people are afraid because of what other people think which is stupid.

I know what your saying Darling about the backward thingy. But unluckily for the backward folk I don't hang with them. Most of my posse are folks that are very liberal and enlightened and many have settled with other nationalities colours and creeds. I personally (not that I don't like Irish women) would prefer to settle with a lady from else where.

Oh and I love black ladies and TS girls too. Maybe we could have an intergender/interracial 3 way?
