Default Question to all.....Do you believe in one true love ?

I know that we are not just a bunch of sex crazed money obsessed maniacs.......All I am asking is,,,,,,,, if I offered you a life of one great, true love in sickness and in health ....would you take it over what you have right now ?

    I know I would

.....but it took me a long time to work this out

What a beautiful expression of what you do Dolly, I too believe in one true love, but sometimes that love is too strong for one or other of the parties. I fall in love easily and always try to have a friendship. I have an ex whom I love with all my heart and would give everything up for but she does not feel the same (at the minute, LOL) Dolly I hope you find your true love if not, then I hope to share a ration of your love when I get to your side of the pond.

i think we all would but the problem is what we percieve true love to be. life is not hollywood and is a lot more complicated.
one true love is like chasing rainbows. we remember past loves in rose tinted glasses but if they were still with us i am sure they would piss us off somehow.
The reality is the people who are truely in love are the ones you may least suspect.
the closest definition i have of true love is my love for my child. we are not perfect people but our aspirations and dreams tend to want us to be. we have all been in love head over heels, very rarely this original love lasts and is recipricated, for the vast majority however i think we hook up and fall in love over time and sometimes fall out of love as well but it is not that crazy love we all dream about.
    its a lovely idea though.

theres no doubt that the pain of a breakup ranks up
there with as bad as it gets.

since i experienced this, its like she took part of it with her
or it healed diferently, but i'm unable to give too much of a shit
about someone that way. to me, i am number one going forward!

I do believe in love. But not in just one true love.
I think we are meant to love more then once in a life time. Perhaps in slightly different ways, depending at what particular point we are in our lifes when it happens.

We tend to idealise the love we find in the earliest part of our lifes, unless perhaps the break up was too nasty. And we tend to work more on the love we find when we are more mature, as we don't want to always repeat past mistakes.

But yes, I would say there is not just one person there for us.

Giving up my job for someone I love? I can see it happen but not because a certain loved someone would say so. I like (mostly) my job but I still regard it as a job only, not a vice so I won't welcome or appreciate any demands to quit it.

I agree with Amy, as usual. Love is real, but the idea that there is one and only one true love out there for you is a load of Victorian nonsense. It's harmful when you're young and actually believe it, because it sets a standard which real relationships, always imperfect in some way, can never live up to.

“I wish you wouldn’t keep appearing and vanishing so suddenly; you make one quite giddy!”
“All right,” said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone.
