Luck or Faith??

I'm sure all of us know someone who has fallen victim to the change in times,
As the world we live in today is full of gangs and guns
My question-simple is it luck or faith that some of us are lucky not to be caught up in it?
Just today iv heard that a young guy around 18/19 that I knew very well from the area I grew up in(d.8) was shot in the head and is critical,he was a nice young lad although it's more than I can say for most of them in the area,just to think it could have been me or anyone,iv heard one or two stories one was he was in his friends house and they were messing with a gun when it fired off,but as of right now no one knows the exact story,
I thank god that I had went my separate ways to hanging with friends and things as iv been working hard,
My prayers and thoughts are with him and his family at this time

I'm sorry if is thread annoys anyone the question of faith or luck is just in my head so I tought I'd ask

It happens in every country sure. I dare say every city as well, some more so than others. I can't give praise enough that I was raised in a nice quiet respectable background.
