I'm off type threads

I don't understand these 'OK i'm off ' type threads....I haven't been on here long enough to know what it was like in the good ole days, but if posters find it so boring, why not post something interesting, humorous, controversial instead ? (This is none of the above)

There are nearly as many threads asking why posters announce their departure as there are threads announcing ones departure. I prefer the ones that announce their departure as at least you know where they have disappeared to rather than wonder.
Everyone gets sick of this place after a while and with such a turnover of posters every subject humorous or not pops up regular as if it was never said before, that in itself even becomes monotonous..

Agree with the sentiment here. One day I'll go myself and I fully intend to disappear. It's unlikely a poster of my fame would be missed anyway but this "good bye" and "I'm retiring" lark is a load of nonsense.

Only thing I'd ask of anyone heading for the exit, whether you choose to make a fanfare about it or not, is to please not come back under a different user name. That only shows what a sad b*****d you are really if you've nothing better to be doing with your life than start f*****g about in a place like E-I.

I've never understood the reason for the I'm off/I'm retiring announcements either.

Totally agree Banjo. If someones genuinely going fair enough...but not just cause you're bored with the site

I haven't tried yet, although sometimes for the sake of my sanity, think I should take a break every now and then. :-)
I can't see trying to leave working, you have to really want to leave.
