    Default Dana's banjaxed

Just saw below.. Dana might not recall renouncing her allegiance to Ireland when she became a US citizen..but there's documentary proof she did!!
As a dual citizen myself I admire her atttempt at ambivalence but there's no way to squirm out of this.. Dev was a natural born American citizen ( ie on US soil).. so the comparison quite simply is not valid ( he never renounced allegiance to anywhere).
I'll be honest & admit my bias upfront- imho, this woman represents a sectarian anachronistic version of many of the bad things that Ireland once embodied. But even if I didn't feel that way- she's now just plain lying!
Really hope that this isnt fudged- no presidentail ticket for Ms.Scallon

I didn't renounce Ireland, says Dana

    By Alan O'Keeffe

    Friday October 07 2011

DANA Rosemary Scallon has said she cannot remember taking an oath renouncing allegiance to Ireland when she became a US citizen.

Dana insisted that being a US citizen did not disqualify her from becoming president of Ireland -- and said Eamon De Valera was an American citizen.

She denied a claim made by her sister Stella during a family legal dispute that she kept her US citizenship a secret while contesting the 1997 Irish presidential election.

Her sister made the secrecy claim during a fraught legal row in 2008 in the US during a court fight over some of the Irish singer's religious recordings.

Dana, who has come last in opinion polls of support for presidential candidates, said she never kept her US citizenship a secret.

She became a US citizen shortly before the 1997 election.

People becoming naturalised US citizens take an oath renouncing their allegiances to all other countries. Dana said she could not remember taking the oath.

She said she was assured she could retain her Irish citizenship when she took out US citizenship. She said she would never have become a US citizen if she had to give up her Irish citizenship. She only votes in Ireland, not in America.

    CITIZEN

Dana had developed a successful career in the US as a singer and as a host of religious television programmes in the 1990s.

Her sister Stella Stein told a court in Iowa that she had travelled to Ireland in 1997 to work on Dana's election campaign. She claimed that she had a meeting then with Dana's husband Damien and Dana's brother John and they had concluded it would not look good if the people of Ireland knew she was a US citizen.

Dana is a joke. I don't know why she thought she could be President of Ireland.

I could never take anything she says seriously.

I haven't been logged on myself since Monday except to exchange pm's.

Getting back to the OP, I really hope Dana is removed from the Presidential Election
as she has nothing to offer. Mind you the rest are not much better.
Gay Mitchell - Can't ber taken seriously, Michael D Higgins is too old
David Norris and Martin Mc Guinness - chequered history
Mary Davis and Sean Gallagher -

I would prefer only three candidates to run.
At least then, the person elected will have achieved at least 33% of the vote.

Transfers I think will decide the outcome , and a lot of voters would not be glued into this fact .: doc

Yeah, I know that, but first preference should be more emphatic towards the final result.

I do hope for her own sake that Dana is taking legal advice about what she just said. Forget the Presidency for a second.. If she has no memory of forswearing allegiance etc, she may be getting a tap on the shoulder from Uncle Sam but more realistically it sounds as if she may have committed the equivalent of civil perjury or at least deliberate fraud by not declaring the relevant facts in last campaign registration papers
IRL has always sat n fence on this one ( TG!).. many countries oblidge you to give up your passport if you take a second citizenship..the US never really polices it from their end althoug if you're originally Cuban/N.Korean/Libyan etc it'd be dicey travelling on your first country docs... but I'm wondering here- If Dana goes to renew her Irish passport- wonder if she could face a problem now???
