    Default Census forms and religion

I'm breaking with my tradition and posting a non-escorting related thread because I believe this to be quite important. Apologies if it's been posted before but I haven't seen it.

Anyhoo - census is coming up and I would urge anyone who does not believe in a God to make sure they tick "No religion" on the form rather than automatically ticking catholic out of a sense of tradition or force of habit. Even if you do believe in a God but not in the Catholic church, please choose another reasonable option (choices are Church of Ireland, Islam, Presbyterian, Orthodox and other).

Also, tempting as it may be to put in Jedi, unless you actually own at least one light-sabre and can move objects using the power of your mind, you are not in actual fact a Jedi so please don't stick this in as it just skews the results more in favour of the child molesters.

The results of this are extremely important as they will influence political decision, especially in the areas of school authorities for years to come. We need to remove the influence of Rome from the education of our children as soon as possible and for the moment, this is one of the most powerful ways we can do this.

You may not always agree with me on the boards, or think I'm a bit of whatever but I would ask you to put this aside and have a serious think about this. There's plenty of information on the Google for those who can exercise a bit of critical thinking.

I agree with you Punterminator. The Minister for Education has stated that 50% of primary schools should be outside the patronage of private religious organisations i.e. 100% under state or public control. Some argue that this is just an optimistic target and that the government would be happy to settle for a lot less. Basically, religious education or faith formation would not be part of the curriculum for the schools under state patronage........the 4 or 5 classes per week saved would be devoted to such subjects as Maths, Science, IT, English.......which are important for both the individual and for the economy. Those parents who want their children taught a particular faith or prepared for First Holy Communion or Confirmation would then have the option of this being done after regular school hours or the churches always have the option of running a Sunday School type arrangement.

No doubt, there will be those who will try to frustrate the intentions of the Minister and keep the number of schools taken out of religious patronage to a minimum. The best way to support the Minister is to do what the electorate did to Fianna Fail in February and record ones religion as anything but Roman Catholic. The Irish people and the many immigrants from a wide range of cultures now living here deserve a proper choice as to how their children should be educated and only the state can provide this choice.

I also agree that filling in Jedi is a waste of time, as those replies will just be regarded as the work of cranks. You need to choose a sensible option such as No Religion (aetheist or agnostic) or one of the Protestant churches to make most use of the census.

Fair enough, I'm an atheist myself but there are an unbelievable amount of people that will automatically tick the box labelled Catholic out of a sense of familiarity. This isn't really about a belief in god or otherwise, it's more about an adherence to the Catholic church.

Again, I urge you, unless you agree with the doctrine and behaviour of the Catholic Church - DO NOT TICK CATHOLIC ON THE CENSUS FORM!

What does their behaviour matter if you believe in the doctrine?

Because their doctrines (papal infallibility etc.) allows them to cover up child abuse.

Pope is only infallible when he us in the chair. Anyway the pope is just a person and lke any other person he makes mistakes. Im not sticking up for the church here but the religion should be kept separate from the people who work in it. Religion has nothing to do with child abuse

I never said he wasn't Doozer, simply that papal infallibility (which as you point out he only has ex-cathedra but I fail to see how that is relevant to my point) is what allows them to cover up the actions of paedophiles.

If you don't agree with me, that's fine. Just tick Catholic on the census forms and continue to allow these people to have influence in the education of our children. It's your choice, I'm simply expressing an opinion to which I am entitled.
