I think Pat takes quite a bit more than a single penny for ads.The girl I visited just the other day started talking about her "boss" at the end of my punt, and what kind of percentage split they have and other 'business arrangements', as well as where he is located. I just cracked a nervous fake smile, and just nodded politely. It was so obvious, I'm not sure why she even bothered with the euphemism:
If a girl is working in the business and she's giving so much as a SINGLE PENNY of her earnings to someone else, that person is a PIMP, plain and simple. Call them your 'boss', 'employer', 'boyfriend', whatever, they are a PIMP, and are simply taking the ladies' money.
This is only the second time I've ever encountered this kind of thing that I know of; one other lady I visited a few years ago told me about a 'boyfriend' which sounded very suspicious, as apparently he not only knew of her occupation, he '"let" her pay his bills and rent-- or at least that's how the lady described it.No way to really know if they don't say anything, but snooping around the ladies' things at her place is completely inexcusable!

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough, but I'm sure you know what I meant regarding where the money that a lady earns goes towards. I think the next sentence after the one you highlighted clarifies my position. Advertising is an unavoidable expense of doing business, but Pat and the E-I staff are hardly in the same category as pimps.
I know what you meant, but the real issue is not money, but control. Independents and agency escorts both get a percentage of what they earn. An independent's percentage is larger, and less predictable, but the difference in terms of money really isn't that large. The crucial issue is who makes the decisions. Lots of people "live off immoral earnings", to use the phrasing of the law, but a pimp is someone who does that and "controls prostitution".
