Default Is E-I biased against ugly people...?

I've said this before, but I don't think the ugly mugs section should have the word ugly in it.

You wouldn't call the section "faggot list" or "scarfaced" or "skinheads" or "small penis men" and then if someone questioned it say: "oh well it's only metaphorical" or something like that. Obviously there are handsome men that are bastards just as much (maybe ugly people sometimes have more issues or were brought up the wrong way/have drug habits and look bad so are slightly worse sometimes, I don't know... that would be no excuse anyway for painting them all with the same brush).

Whether metaphorical or not, words matter. In politics you wouldn't say someone performed a "girly job" on something, and then if questioned say oh it's only metaphorical, because that would be seen as very sexist. True, ugly is subjective, but it's not THAT subjective, some people really are ugly.

I'm not saying I'm ugly or handsome, I just don't see the reason for this. I know that E-I got it from some other "system" somewhere else originally.

If you saw some of the disgusting behaviour that actually goes on, I would say 'Ugly' is only too polite a term to use.

No samlad, you have it backwards. I'm not saying that "ugly" is too much of an insult to the males that do those acts, I'm saying that "ugly" isn't an insult at all, and shouldn't be used as a derogatory term. Ugly people deserve the same respect and reputation as everyone else, so why not call these people something more appropriate? There are lots of more accurate adjectives in the dictionary...

I think the term "ugly mugs" as more a reflection on their soul that drove them to do whatever it is they did then on actual looks and tbh I can't see any of them taking E-I to court over this minor if not pedantic point.

I appreciate the sentiments expressed above are very well meant.

But sometimes I find this virtual world we inhabit quite fascinating.

On one hand, the real world we inhabit is to a greater or lesser degree , quite murky. Full of false identities, lies, nasty rumours, moral ambiguity etc, yet within the confines of this virtual world, great energy is expended on trying to create a perfect utopian society, free of prejudice and political incorrectness.

I applaud the efforts of those such as NGAN in this case. It's just something that struck me as interesting, that's all.

hmmm have you read some of NGANs earlier works?

    anti emigrant thread?

    anti Asian thread?

His "love" of canine company thread?

pls dude read up before you acclaim him for cleaning up this small bit of possible PC issue. He only does it to create a stir and I for one am not rising to the bait but just pointing out that he is last person here who could be called Mr PC.

Ugly mugs is a generic term taken from the Met Police. Personally I think the DerangedNastyBastardList is slightly too fluffy.

Well, I was just trying to cloak my cynicism to be honest but thanks anyway.
