    Default The Horrors of Smoking

Figures have been released that say 6500 people a year are dying in Ireland as a direct
result of smoking. To put this in perspective we continiously hear about the carnage on
our roads and the numbers dying. Well the amount of people smoking is killing every year would
fill 90 double decker buses, now that would be a serious crash
    Blatant promotion should be outlawed
    but

I've just seen a programme on the television actually... there are children trying to help get their parents to stop smoking. It has been estimated the one parent will have spent up to £500,000 in their lifetime on cigarettes alone if they continue to smoke at the rate that they are doing. It's not only the health risks that people should consider, but also the financial impact too.

I think that figure is excessive as it would require an 80 to 100 cigarette a day habit to reach those numbers. I think
people smoking that heavily are not the norm, but i agree it is a filthy and very expensive habit. A person smoking 20
a day in Ireland which would probably be fairly average smoking spends almost 3500 euro a year, this is alot of money.
Its strange u will have revolt over something like the Universal Social Charge but a 20 a day habit would pay for it
a few times over for most people, and u will never hear them moaning about that waste

That is terrible news ... but some people can just not live without it and that is so sad. Specially in the middle of this crise when they should stop for economic reasons, they need cigarrets even more.

Well I am very proud to say I am into my second year "OFF" the ciggys . I will never touch another one again.

I do apologise however to the gentlemen that I saw while I was smoking, because it wasnt until I packed in smoking that I realised the odours from it .
I still do like the aroma of someone smoking a pipe or a good quality cigar. But ciggys YAK.

love Tiff and her big ( lungs )xx

6,500 sounds like a bullshit figure to me to be honest. Fact is if a person dies of practically any disease and they happen to be a smoker then smoking is touted as the cause. The people who come up with these stats ignore the fact that these diseases are unfortunately just a part of life and happen to people - including non-smokers. Basically if any smoker gets sick.. anti-smoking lobbyists will label it a smoking-related illness to get their point across, make their figures seem even more drastic so they can then say something like You could fill 90 double decker buses with that many people.
I'm not saying smoking isn't often the cause, and yeah it's a bad habit but i do hate seeing manipulation of facts.

I used to smoke, but I quit before Christmas.

I suppose it's better for me in the long run, but I want you to know that I would happily get a knife from my kitchen drawer and kill you, your family and all your pet animals in an orgy of hot spicy red blood for a fag.
