Default Why Irish Eyes Are Crying - VF article

Here's an online article from Vanity Fair magazine about our current economic woes, how they happened, and why we the Irish people, being such inbred culchie halfwits, don't seem to care.

It's quite long, nine pages in total, so you have to be able to read a bit, but it's quite interesting.

The VF piece is a thought provoking piece (it's already been mentioned in two threads here). Although the bulk if hard data will be familiar ( anybody who read Ship of Fools by Fintan de big Toole will know most if the stats etc - plus all the self congratulatory crap that Fintan was the only person in the galaxy who saw it coming etc).
Imho, What's important about the Lewis piece is that the Irish nation needs to hear this from outsiders so the madness can never be allowed to happen again!
Btw- the character assessment of ESP Brian cowen alone is worth the (long) read!

I think the reason Irish people ''don't seem to care'' because deep in their hearts they were partially responsible-no one told people to buy houses they couldn't and no one put a gun to peoples head telling them to over-indulge in cheap credit, and then spend like there's no tomorrow. Greed and Envy is what really got Ireland into this mess, and you're supposed to be Christians! A Moral Tale if ever there was one

Yes they did, and why? Because capitalism is over, and most Western countries ddn't have REAL economies so the Americans decided to make them up by creating FAKE financial instruments, that's kind of where the sub-prime mortgages come from-real estate was the new Gold. Do your research, capitalism is dead, been dead

Anita- don't dare mention that the Irish people have any personal responsibility for the clusterfuck- they only elected the pillocks and then fed the credit beast!

I read it earlier. Nothing we didn't already know, really, but well written.

“I wish you wouldn’t keep appearing and vanishing so suddenly; you make one quite giddy!”
“All right,” said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone.
