I have a friend like that, always me, myself and I, but she has a brilliant knack of sending me a text or calling me apologising just at the right moment saying that she knows she's a bitch for never asking how I am and of course all is forgiven. It's funny but my whole life my closest friends were all women, my best friend is a woman, if I go out it's with women, i find I associated better with women, guys I dunno must be intimidated by me cause I rarely have real male friends, just acquaintances

I find that in life people fall into 2 categories. Those who give to others and those who take from others.
Taker + Taker = Both end up getting/feeling used
Taker + Giver = Giver gets/feels used
Giver + Giver = The best kind of relationship
Being self obsessed is downright selfish. These people shouldn't bother us nice folks with their dramatics over and over again. I've had this problem with people too so am very cautious now. It hasn't done me any harm though as the friends I do have are genuinely lovely people. They're real friends and the relationships are certainly not one sided.
