Default Radio ads to end prostitution

Just heard another ad on the radio where they say...

When you pay for sex...it is never consensual sex, she is always being forced.

It is an ad for the website Turn Off The Red Light.ie | End Prostitution and Sex Trafficking in Ireland

I want to hear from the escorts today about this.

Not one replied to jackinthebox thread yesterday.

He's the poster who started the 'please write to the metro herald...' thread yesterday.

Bruno-they are either very ignorant or simply in denial.
for 2yrs, i enjoyed going to headshops and meeting other
nice middle class people enjoying their simple, harmless pleasure.

one or two cases of teenage suicide emerged (this is an epidemic today-who you gonna blame now?)
and 200,000 discerning adults that don't value that legal swill-were criminalised once again.

i see the same interfering, mis-informed fools sticking their noses into escorting now,
i am a bit concerned, but i can live where i want, and will.

several threads have been ignored on this-i understand-you're bosses (both marital and employers)
get to control you-so continue to talk about bums and tits for now.

also, i love escorts, but just show this in my appointments-i don't need them to make
me feel any more special than the next dude-(thats my job!)

I didnt hear that add. But i dont think "Women and children are exploited in Ireland’s sex industry. Some have been trafficked into Ireland in order to be made work in the sex industry." NOT at all!

Once again this is a sweeping generalisation of an industry that these 'so called good doers' no virtually nothing about.

Firstly , yes I cant deny that some girls are trafficked, but there are girls trafficked in most countries, Ireland is not alone on this issue. There was a BBC documentry done a good few years ago about the trafficking problem in London. Some of the girls working were living & working in dreadful conditions, mattress on the floor, dirty run down houses yet these conditions did not stop guys visiting the girls nor were they driven to report them to the appropriate authorities. We all have a responsiblity to stop trafficking but to try to label all escorts as 'trafficked' is not the answer. The problem is these people who hold this view tend not to be open to listening to all sides of the arguement, the headline of 'evidence shows most escorts work of their own accord' doesnt sell newspapers, get as much media coverage as 'all paid sex in non consensual'.

Secondly, I made an informed decision to start escorting, I was never coerced into this profession. The girls I know also came into this profession by choice, not trafficked. To me it's clear who are genuine independent escorts. we do our own advertising, we organise our diary, our locations, we answer our phones. I am willing to stand up & be counted on this issue. It annoys the hell out of me that certain people in society think they have the right to take the moral high ground & dicate about an industry they know nothing about. They should go out & try to do something more positive. Maybe they should try to find out how much the tourism of this country would suffer if girls didnt rent hotels, other accommodaton, flights & general consumerism.

    Thats my rant over,

I agree with most of what you are all saying.

The problem is the people in power, politicians, social service agencies, the media etc, believe only one side of this story.
And make no mistake, this legislation will be put forward and no politician will have balls to debate against it.

I could just talk about 'tits and bums' as one poster has suggested but there are plenty of other threads devoted to trivial and fun items, and I have no problem with that at all. I often join in with these when I'm in the mood.

In the meantime, I just want to raise awareness ( along with others) to what is happening and to gather comment and information that will help me and others to voice our protest at the proposed law changes.

And this board is a valid forum for that.

I'm not looking to ruin anyones buzz.

All comments are welcome. But don't dismiss the seriousness of this or the power of those behind the campaign, even though we all know they are misguided.

the most important fact that Kevin Myers makes is:

the UK police were unable to find a single case of human trafficking.
(the Garda found the same in a similar report)

an image of a girl bound up is emotive-but keep it factual, thanks.

It's vital that we support anybody putting forward the case for Escorts. It's our livelyhood after all. The Escorting forums should all be assisting in pushing this matter - without prostitution they wouldn't have a business either.
Tits and arse threads can happen at anytime but if this more serious and relevant thread is put off we'll soon all be criminals.

Campaign? I have ad a little look at the draft proposal and my real thought is these are sensationalist tactics brought about by a government in its dying throes. Aided by a trafficking charity who wouldnt really want to tell anyone that their tr4afficking victims are relatively few, and in the main are economic migrants as oppased to victims.

A similar propsal has been put forward for Scotland and is currently up for Debate. You can get more information here from the Scottish Sex Workers on why they will be objecting here..

33 Reasons Why the Clients of Sex Workers Should Not Be Criminalised

Only rights can fix wrongs. However much we would like things to be different, until Irish Sex Workers form their own union they will remain misrepresented and voiceless. It isnt a petition you need, its someone with balls.
