Question punters to be criminalised for buying sex...

the last few days, i've been considering the likelyhood/implications
if such new legislation were drafted.

as escorts are to be decriminalised/legitimised it will be punters
who face prosecution. E-I may prosper as a result because advertising
    such services would be legal.

the powere that be tend to think they can eradicate aspects from
society that they find undesirable. i know that all that happens is an
industry becomes transformed: headshops/organised crime etc.

how do you think the escort industry will function if the short sighted
    moralists are given their way?

It's an effort to tackle trafficing as opposed to stamp out an undesirable element of society. I'm not defending it, I think trafficing is disgusting yet I don't feel this it the way to deal with it.

This question was discussed here the last time this piece of legislation hit the headlines. It wasn't taken very seriously ... there were plenty people posting reasons for why it won't change anything.

Personally I'm not so sure. Now that the cross hairs would be focused on me as a punter, I'd think twice about going to see the girls any more. Feck that ...... too much to loose.

Just to answer your question, I do believe the industry would suffer because a lot of the demand would disappear.

I doubt very much that any future government is considering liberalising the situation as regards the advertising of escort services or prostitution. I think they will treat the escorts as victims and continue to try to prosecute all others involved, including the punters in future. The alternatives for the punter are: 1. Accept the increased risk if you wish to punt incall, 2. go for outcalls to either your residence or to a hotel (it's easier to monitor a few apartments then the movements of hundreds of escorts, or 3. take your money and your erection to another jurisdiction where your custom will be welcome.

I don't see how E-I would prosper considering many escorts would not see the point of advertising at all as many punters would no longer take the risk of their name being dragged into it...if the law is passed i predict that many of the escorts visiting these shores would be drastically cut....
I have lived a life of regrets.

I think there will be a lot more relationships established with trusted individuals.

EI and trusted reviews would probably become even more important in increasing punter safety.

i did feel the outcall could become more popular/viable.
detectives would be monitoring popular girls, SIM's tapped etc.
police have to maximise limited resourses to get maximum results.

I suppose the if this law does come in at stage in the future i doubt cops staking out escorts appartments on the off chance they see a punter venture would somehow be on the high priority list for the gardai..there are far greater problems out there at the moment than this surely...

i dont see any problem with escorting or even the headshop movement.
but i don't think police confront issues that are most harmful in society.
what wins in court is the focus.

I wish that were the case, but I fear that may not be the reality AML. I totally agree that the Gardai have more important priorities but there are "interested parties" that are pushing for this legislation, who will definitely put pressure on the Gardai to make a public spectacle of punters. They (these "interested parties") would love to see us (punters) all nailed to the cross.

While stopping "trafficking" may the underlying idea behind the proposed legislation, if it comes through I think it will be the end of punting in Ireland as we know it. It will certainly be the end of punting for me in this country.
