When is torture justified?

I was watching Blue Blood the other evening and the cops arrested a pedophile for abducting a child! He would not say where he had put her so they stuck his head into a toilet until he did!

It got me thinking, is it ever justified to use torture?

If there was an imminent terrorist attack, and, you have the guy that planned it. How far should we as a society allow our security forces to go to save lives?

torture maybe, castration definitely! as far as sick bastards who play with kids!!!!!!!!!

I agree but I do not want to linger on the paedo aspect but more the moral issue!

No but seriously, it's a can of worms to allow it openly but I would have no problem with torture being used occasionally behind closed doors under certain circumstances such as an eminent bomb attack or kidnapping.

As a general principle torture is in my opinion utterly wrong.
But when I see and hear about what some of these people have done to kids
I would have no problem with the idea that they were tortured.

But then at the same time I find it perplexing that I could accept it in any circumstances.

One thing I do know is that if anyone laid a hand on my son I would kill them stone dead and not care if I spent 10 years in the clink for it.

But is behind doors not a recipe for disaster?
And you can not expect guys to do it with no legal protection!

I am not doubting you in that, but every parent says that. I have no recollection of it ever happening here though!
