From what I can gather it seems he intends staying on as Taoiseach until the election but someone else will be the new FF leader. But I could be wrong about that.

OK he is staying on as Taoiseach.

I guess he will be a shadow taoiseach..basically its more of a title. Whoever the new FF leader will be will call the shots...

This would be a pity, as it is Aherne who brought the country to its knees, and is the person most responsible for the mess we are in

That's the best news I heard in ages. Things would have been bad no matter who was taoiseach at that time but he did make alot of mistakes. That's what the party needed. It would have no chance with him still there. . Micheal Martin will be the next leader I would say. If they choose Brian Lenihan then there as bad as ever

There was always going to be a change of government no matter who was leader of FF but with Cowen now gone they may now do a little better in the election. One question now is who will the new leader be.My money is on Micheal Martin.

Wouldn't you be delighted to walk away from the mess he helped create?

I don't like bertie too much either but both are as bad as each other...brian cowen was finance minister during the aherne years and surely played a massive part in our downfall....
