The problem is not with the water mains, but with the crap quaility plumbing job on most domestic and non-domestic supply pipes. Most people don't know they have leaks at the moment, maybe when the house cracks or the ceiling caves in the might understand.

I read somewhere that up to 40% of treated water is lost due leakage at normal times so god knows how much is being lost now!

You make a very valid point there audi. The British, or better still those damned English are to blame for the mess we now find ourselves in with our watermains. Bloody Victorians developed the system and then never bothered to inform us that it had to be maintained.

Sure we were far too busy doing sexy things like the IFSC, Temple Bar, Terminal 2, the National Conference Centre, the Bertiebowl (no that one never materialised), to worry ourselves with water.......sure are'nt we surrounded by it and regularly flooded by it. Maybe when the polar ice cap melts our water problems will be solved........instead of being one medium sized unmanageable island, we could become an archipelago of smaller manageable islands.

But as with everything, you have to look on the positive side.............if the good Lord have given us the Netherlands we would'nt have a country any more.
