Stephen Ireland is nothing but a jumped up little prick who is so far up his own head that he thinks he can do what the fuck he likes. I for one would find it very hard to watch him in a green jersey again, even in the youth teams he had no respect for managers and staff and the FAI should of left him high and dry then.

My only hope is that the senior players do what they did last time and bully the hair plug wearing cunt out of the squad.

So what if we have a squad of players that couldn't get into their national teams but since 1986 some of our best and most loyal players have been brought in on the parents/grandparent rule. Some of these guys gave their all for the Green and this guy who is born and bread here couldn't give a damn, FUCK HIM, I say!!!

And to say he's a better player than Ireland is laughable.. Ireland was one of the hottest prospects in English football not 18 months ago, was voted Man City's player of the season 2009 ahead of Robinho, Elano, Dunne etc. He's just out of form at the moment.

McCarthy on the other hand has played 20 minutes of football for Ireland (in a friendly), has barely played this season for Wigan and has something like a grand total of 2 league goals to his credit.

Not to mention that McCarthy and Ireland are completely different types of players.
didnt stop him being targeted by Liverpool Man Utd Chelsea Arsenal Barca AC Milan and Madrid as a youngster
He is still young and in my opinion will be a better player in a few years

The story about the deathbed wish is a load of bollox, according to McCarthy.

Ehhh ... Ireland is not playing any football at the moment, so he is not playing better than anyone in the squad at the moment.

The only reason McCarthy has played so little this season is that he was injured at the end of October.

Yer i'm aware that Ireland isn't getting alot of game time at the moment. He's off form and clearly unhappy at the club he's with. But that doesn't change the fact that he's an established Premiership footballer. Form comes and goes - just look at Torres, Rooney etc

I do think McCarthy has potential. However all i've seen so far is a bit of talent that's made less than 40 appearances for Wigan, couldnt establish himself as a certain starter last season and appears to be quite injury prone so there's no hell way anyone could say he's better than Stephen Ireland. Right now he's just a talented prospect.
The other point i made is that comparing them is pointless since their playing style & position is so different.

Fact is, you look at our national side and see the likes of Whelan, Green and Andrews playing so there's no question if the circumstances allow, Ireland would walk back into that team.

I'm not sayin Stephen Ireland isn't a cunt.. but then again, most footballers nowadays are.

    I take your points.

But .... what effect on the team would bring him back have? Would it affect cohesion? Would the players welcome him back?

Remember, this is someone who said he had no interest in EVER playing for Ireland again, and now wants to come back solely to rescue his failing career.

There are a lot of imponderables which we don't really know enough of to fully understand the implications, but my guess is the disadvantages of his coming back would heavily outweigh the advantages.

You really have to wonder about what has inspired this sudden love of the National Team.
The little prat has never shown any interest in any Ireland only himself in the past and I feat this is the case again this time.

While his talent is in no doubt, the timing of this spontaneous burst of national pride also seems to have coincided with the lowest point of his club career to date.

I fear using Ireland as a shop window to resurrect his failing club career is the lowest ebb yet in a spiteful little pricks less than glorious career. He makes me soooo mad.
