    I don't believe this is the case as each individual with those thoughts must have serious problems to be thinking that way in the first place. There are different forms of thought on suicide and from memory I think these are egoistic, altruistic and anomic as detailed by Durkheim. In some cases this may be put down to attention seeking but in my own view thoughts of suicide are serious regardless of theories.

    Such a simple question does not lead to a simple answer.

    Although some may be seeking attention, there are many others so unhappy with their life that they don't see the point anymore.

    If the situation arrives where someone we know is contemplation suicide, we should not judge, but be there to support and help.

    Many people during there life will at some stage suffer from mental illness.
    Unfortunately there is still a stigmal attached to this issue which is why so many suffer in silence until it is too late.

    A cry for help or attention?

    I wouldn't care if it was, it just means that individual needs our support.
