I am on 3 other forums for 5+ years and every single one of them has had these kinds of threads every few years. IMO, every forum has a certain charter it is loosely centered around and most of the posts posted on that forum is centered around that charter. There is only so much and so many ways you can write about said charter and so clique A that started the forum starts to dwindle away because it has all been said, they have moved on or whatever, clique B moves in and it all starts again, except now clique A starts complaining, repeat and rinse.

I will say though, /b/ normally only takes a couple of weeks before this starts all over again. Love 4Chan.
