    Had the same problem Mousey.
    It came down to working to long and not enough exercise.
    *Joined the Gym and lost two stone from last Jan.
    Sleep like a baby now!

    Try get at least one hours exercise, even if it's just bringing the dog for a walk and stay away from alcohol!!


    *Note: Now I know I still have a bit to go in the weight loss before any smartarse Lady answers this post...Yeah I am speaking to you Chambers!!!

    Mousey from what I have read about you , you are 'slightly' overweight. This could actually be the root cause of you inability to sleep ad can alsom result in sleep apnea, (where you stop breathing in your sleep) Loose some of the weight and you should be ok. Some of teh other suggestions will aslo help you sleep too.

    I assume your not overly stressed as this will result in loss of sleep too.

    You know, I actually suffer from sleep apnea and I have to go to a sleep lab in December. I'm not overweight, but I've suffered from this for years. It was realised when my ex complained that I snored and sometimes stopped breathing for long periods of time.

    I find myself very tired a lot of the time and can often fall asleep when I sit down and become relaxed... the tiredness is so overwhelming I can't control it. The quality of sleep I get is really bad; because I'm not breathing properly I don't fall into REM sleep and wake up groggy and exhausted. If I wake up in the night, I can't get back to sleep either, so it's a nightmare (not to pun, here!).

    The problem is that when I lie on my back, my windpipe relaxes and collapses slighty, restricting the air-flow and causing the snoring. I have to sleep on my side in order to combat this, and I get a better night's sleep. However, I always wake up at least twice in the night and can't relax, so it's a vicious circle really!!!

    Yes Sam a classic example of sleep apnea. You dont ahve to be overweight to have it. Sleep lab might be a bit OTT but if thast what your into why not. Your GP could refer you to a surgeon who can correct the structure of you windpipe and allow for teh correct amount of oxygeon to get through and therefore giving you a good night sleep (and possibly anyone around you too)

    They want to avoid surgeory and give me an oxygen mask to use while I sleep to force the air down my throat. I'm adversed to the idea to be honest, but hopefully the surgeory may be offered when I see the sleep technician.
