Have people become ungrateful to the Catholic Church because of a few bad eggs.
They educated generations, kept hospitals going etc.
Should we forget the good because of the bad?
    Are we ungrateful?

Educated by christian brothers and although I got a few thumps in my time I have no axe to grind - probably deserved them at the time. Got to know our parish priest well as I was growing up and at low times in my life he was a great help to me. Got sick a few years ago and insisted I was treated in the Bons as the nuns run the best hospitals - for me the bad eggs don't detract from the good and although I am not a church goer I still respect them. Probably why I have never asked an escort to dress up as a nun.

Unfortunately Catholicism was hijacked by a few tyrannical men, and twisted into the moral guilt trip we find today. No faith is perfect, but unfortunately the priests have cut ours to fit.

    What guilt trip?

It is an organisation with rules!
    All religions have them.
If you do not agree with them you have two options 1. Leave or 2. do your best to change those rules from within.

I question the interpretation of those 'rules'. For as long as I question the men that interpreted them, I shall follow my faith in my own way. There should be no rules in loving God.

    A little simplistic I think.

Nobody can forbid you loving God but no society can exist without ideals or rules!

But the topic is are we ungrateful for all they have provided.

Is it fashionable to bash the Church?

The real problem was with successive governments turning over nearly all social services to the catholic church. Education, health, financial help to those in need - these are matters for the state. Ours was and is unwilling to provide these for the most part.

“I wish you wouldn’t keep appearing and vanishing so suddenly; you make one quite giddy!”
“All right,” said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone.

The thing about teh Catholic Church is that they have indeed done good works, even helpoed out the poor and the likes. Leaving the peado priests out of it, as in reality its only the small minority that abused. Its as Lucy said the Rules. Catholic church is still living and operating in acient times. Take their views on contraception. No contraception allowed in any circumstances.

The only reason a person can have sex is if they are about to procreate andin todays soceity that isnt going to happen. So instead of looking after their flock they dooming them.

Their issues on homosexuality is still fairly bad
and their refusal to ordain women in the church is very outdated, going back to their being unclean during their menstrual cycle and not allowed to be in the church.

There are indeed many more rules that they bring to the table that are not really ethical in this day an age and headed by a few old men in hats who think in academic terms rather than in practical ones.

And thus we do owe a big THANK YOU to the church!
    Would you agree?

And there lies the problem. It is a very simple thing- it has been allowed to be distorted.

Ask the women who were released from the Magdalene Launderies if they think we are ungrateful.
