    Default Dublin raid

Heard on the radio tonight that Gardai raided a house in Dublin going on info from Latvian police and rescued two women (19 and 25 yrs old). Two men have been arrested (indian and pakistani).

It has to do with forced/sham marriages.

Gardaí free two trafficked women - The Irish Times - Tue, Oct 26, 2010

Well done the boys (and gals) in blue!

Gotta agree, well done to get these, hopefully they get locked and the key thrown away. This stood out for me:

The case has emerged at a time when gardaí are investigating hundreds of suspected “sham marriages” and just two months after one of the States’s main marriage registrars said he believed between 10 and 15 per cent of all marriages were bogus.
Seriously, 10 to 15 percent of all marriages in the state is "sham marriages"? If true, that is unbelievably high.

In fairness, the Gardai done F-all only acted on information given to them from another country, as for trafficked, were they?? As for arranged marriages, it's happening all the time, I wouldn't have thought 10-15% were bogus but I can see how it could be the case, I personally know 2 guys who married Lithuanian girls to get EU passports, 1 even had a wedding reception and videod the whole lot, was funny looking at it as if I was the guy making the decision I would have used it as proof of a bogus marriage by the looks and expressions on some of the guests faces.

Jesus its hard for the cozzers to get a slap on the back in this country. But from his reply Anon obviously has more detail about the case than they rest of us.

A few months ago, the BBC were covering a news story on a priest in England who was being prosecuted for conducting over 300 bogus marriages. As background, they interviewed a registrar. He said that, from his experience, in large towns in the UK, 25% of all marriages are fake and are done to help somebody gain the right to reside and work in the EU.

    Thumbs up Raid

The important thing is that two young women are today safe and not been held against their will and whether the Gardai only acted on info from another jurisdiction who cares. No one has the right to treat anyone woman or any individual in this way.

I wouldn't say we're getting the full story here. Maybe the girls were ASSISTED in coming her to escort. But the media want a raid story to sex it up a bit. You never get the full story in the press.

i don't think they were escorting at all, from what i took from the article it seems that they were only being held until these guys married them. Although still revolting I do hope no harm came to them while being held against their will

I do not think it is fair to make that assumption and print it based on your MAYBE. The girls, based on all reports, are victims of false imprisonment so perhaps research before post! Or at least base your opinion on some facts!

I think that is fair don't you?
