recognising that you have a problem

    True

    admitting to yourself defeat

Thats not defeat. Defeat would be if you spent the next few years giving Power your money. When you admit that its a prob and your are going to do whatever to deal with it then its the first victory.

understanding that this problem is beyond your control.

its not beyond your control. The prob is addictions add something to a persons life that masks something and when you discover what and why then its 100% within your control.

Get addicted to something you want to do but never got around to doing it. Choose that and get addicted to it. Addictions dont have to be bad.

Rover, Remember Albert Einsteins saying 'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result' that just about sums up your gambling habits, I've friends who faced up to this filthy habit & got themselves help they now have fuller lives are more content and have more time for other areas of their lives & never turned back- U can do that too...

    THE RECOVERY PROGRAM
Here are the steps which are a program of recovery

    1. We admitted we were powerless over gambling - that our lives had become unmanageable.
    2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to a normal way of thinking and living.
    3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of this Power of our own understanding.
    4. Made a searching and fearless moral and financial inventory of ourselves.
    5. Admitted to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
    6. Were entirely ready to have these defects of character removed.
    7. Humbly asked God (of our understanding) to remove our shortcomings.
    8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
    9. Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
    10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
    11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
    12. Having made an effort to practice these principles in all our affairs, we tried to carry this message to other compulsive gamblers.

The 12 Step Program is fundamentally based on ancient spiritual principles and rooted in sound medical therapy. The best recommendation for the program is the fact that "it works."

Gamblers Anonymous would like to indicate that we are not soliciting members. Our intention is to highlight that gambling for certain individuals is an illness called "compulsive gambling." Gamblers Anonymous provides the message that there is an alternative to the destruction of compulsive gambling and this alternative is the Gamblers Anonymous program.

Pain. When you associate enough pain with what you are doing you will stop. Get whatever help you feel is right for you. Pain is what stops us from putting our hands in a fire, pain is what stops the person who has just being hurt from trusting another at the moment and pain is what gets a person to take the steps neccessary to stop an addiction. When a person associates massive pain with the activity in question they will stop. Its pain is what made you decide to stop, its pain is what is making you speak about it and its pain is what will make you stop for good.

Ppl generally view things through two mediums, pleasure and pain. Ppl do the activities that they associate pleasure with and dont do the activities that they associate pain with.

Good luck with beating the habit rover. At least you have recognised that you have a problem and that's the main thing. Always remeber that your a winner by not betting. You will always have more money then if you bet. I know it's not about money always as it's the thrill. But you can get a better thrill from seeing any of your favourite ladies.
Help Keyla in her fight with cancer. Every little helps.
It could happen to any of us.
