Thread: Great article ! X

  1. #1

    Question Great article ! X

Seems so much hardship and negative outcome lie ahead :

Food shortages and troops on the streets: A no-deal Brexit nightmare?

    - Disrupted Trade

    - Backlog and border delays (at Kent peak time expected backups up to 29 miles !

Govt now working to turn M26 at Kent into Parking lot for delayed lorries !)

    - Food Shortages (perishables can no longer be trucked in due to border delays etc. )

    - Regulatory uncertainty (Including Medicines , airplanes , etc.)

    - Grounded Planes

    - Economic implications

    - Food Exports. (Ireland greatest loser)

    - The Ireland issue : A no-deal Brexit will cause "significant stress to this country

and to many sectors in the Irish economy,"

    - Service Industry

    - Citizens' rights

    - The Wider World

    - 'Project fear'

Is there No turning back ???

A well written comprehensive article .

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/24/uk/no...ntl/index.html

To me it seems there are No winners in this .

Is there no turning back ??

Hm . Mars bars vs . Cancer Treatment ..

” Some border delays could be deadly.

The radioactive isotopes required for cancer treatment have a half-life of just 66 hours

-- after which their effectiveness begins to rapidly decline -- and are sourced almost entirely from the EU.

Lobby group ScientistsForEU warned that any delays to the isotopes could incur substantial costs,

"not least to the one million UK patients who each year depend on these services," the group said. “

I know which concerns Me more ..

Kudos to CNN to include a reference to Buzzfeed and to Mars Bars in their article , clearly

in an effort to catch the eye of the less high minded populace as well .

    Good article . I learned from it things I didn’t know .

Perhaps not Xmas material , but time closing in , well worth the read . x

    No Deal

And I am still baffled .

It’s not good for UK , defo not only ‘not good’ , but v bad for Ireland ,

not good for EU , not good for Anyone , and yet

as if watching in slow motion a train wreck about to happen , ( throw a switch !!!)

Nobody is doing anything to stop it ??

On UK part : is it Pride that’s preventing a second Referendum ?

I doubt the results of which would be in favor to Leave.

On EU’s part : would they be / Could they be willing to get back to

the way things were with UK — even if they’d make UK eat crow for a while ?

: I’m usually fairly well informed , but I do not understand this : why commit an act

that will bring misery and economic and political upheaval And instability to numerous nations ,

recovery from which may take decades if atall !!?

: risking All of EU unity and even its very survival .

    Why such fatalism ??

It is indeed an ill wind that would not be good for anyone.

    May yet not happen.

    Default William Ulsterman.

How some English (and southerners)see nordies-if they think of them at all.
Theresa May called an election ,lost her overall majority, shot herself in the foot and ended up relying on the 10 M.P. Democratic Unionist Party to support her government. The bulk of the DUP probably welcomes a hard Irish border, if they feel it cements their position in the UK (they will ,on doctrinaire grounds ,harm their economy in the interests of maintaining their border and their union)Any mention of a separate customs regime for NI as opposed to Britain was anathema to the DUP as well as right wing elements in the Conservative Party. The Irish government insistence on a backstop, preserving free movement across the border ,may in the end be an own goal, if it helps push the UK to a no deal exit.Admittedly they had to be seen to be firm with the British (as their tactic is often to promise things in early negotiation that they have little notion of delivering)but it would be impossible for the May government to agree a different customs regime for NI than Britain.
Important as cross border trade is ,even more important to the south is easy/west trade across the Irish sea.
