    Default Gliese 581 G

What do ye reckon about teh enw planet found thursday night, in the sonstellation Libra
They hypothesise that it could infact be the first planet to harbour life. It being in the Goldielocks zone, though its tidally locked like our moon so one side is day and teh other night permenantly

Its just another rock flying about with a bunch of eggheads hanging on to justify their existance and looking for more money

Maybe so, but still there is a good chance that there is life on the planet
Maybe not intelligent life but life none the less

If you are prepared to give the idea of panspermia a chance, then it's possible that life could be scattered all over the universe. Whether that life is sentient is another thing altogether.

The main pain in the hole about Gliese is that the fucking thing is something like 100 TRILLION miles away. Even if we factor in newton's first law, any attempt to reach Gliese at our current level of technology will take around 120 years, and probably longer. Powerful telescopes can make reasonably accurate readings of Gliese's atmosphere, but you need to be there to be 100% sure. So while it's exciting enough news, it's going to be another few centurues before Humanity approaches Gliese - in the meantime, we can look towards colonising the Moon, Mars, some other planetary satellites, and a few dozen of those larger bodies in the asteroid and Kuiper belts. Damn, you ever feel like you were born too soon?

    Panspermia is a dirty word

I THINK Dozer it said on yesterdays news even if we travelled at the speed of light it would take us something like 500.000 years to get there.

Going by Einstein’s theories we can not go any faster than the speed of light so what’s the point in even thinking about it?

Yeah it would be amazing to zip back and forth through space just like the movies but it isn’t going to happen for a VERY long time.

True Panspermia could have spawend life throughout the galaxy
What ever about reaching there (although NASA are currently trying to develope worm hole technology) its teh fact that it could support life that is interesting

Dozer have you ever read or seen any of Dr. Michio Kaku stuff on traveling through space and time? If not you should check him out, he’s fantastic to listen to and explains things so well.
