Make a list of all your ailments, diseases, conditions and afflictions.
Reflect on them for some time.
Accept that you are powerless over them.
    Wallow in misery.

After this you may find that you will get some restful sleep. Let us know how it works.

Consider taking a long haul flight with a 2 hour connection. You'll probably find sleeping quite easy on the second leg.

Repeating this over several days will further improve your ability to rest once a state of jet lag is achieved.

Another positive...Think of all the airmiles.

Once again, let us know how it works.

No but from what i have seen the main diff between ppl who get over an issue and those that dont ,is the ones that get over it never label themselves and refuse to give the issue power over them.

I remember that insomnia got to me so much that in the end I dreaded going to bed. Nothing like being exhausted and lying awake and trying to get your brain to shut down. Try and wind down. Take the advice on food, drink already given and get into bed with a book. Don't go to bed with the mindset of "I must" fall asleep. Don't expect instant results from any solution.
I used to get home from work and fall asleep after dinner. It might only be for five minutes but I straight away knew I'd be awake all night. Don't let it become the issue. Insomnia is only a symptom of something else. More than likely there's something on your mind or you're generally unhappy. This is the hardest piece of advice to follow - find somebody to talk to.
BTW, these days I sleep when I'm tired and get up when I'm not. Doesn't bother me anymore.
