As far as i know, Katie's a devout Christian which is very refreshing in our current climate of non-spirituality.Imo,this shows a great sense of independence even though, personally,i'd be pretty neutral in the whole area of religious beliefs.
Also played underage soccer for Ireland, she's a great role model for teenage girls in the country.Unfortunately, her genuinely GREAT achievement (a testament to commitment, hard work, talent and self-honesty)will be lost in the reams of diatribe from the denizens of the WAG culture.
Will soon replace Sonia as our greatest female athlete - will possibly beat Dr.Pat O Callaghan as our greatest Olympian.

I don't know much about womens boxing. But I've seen Katie fight a couple of times and she's certainly one of the most complete female fighters I've seen. She seems very shy and nervous around the camera, which might one reason she doesn't get much attention.

Plus, there seems to be a bit of snobbery towards boxing in this country. It's by far our most successful sport.

HaHa, one minute your being shown up, the next your blowing your own trumpet as to how brilliant you are, are you sure you're not westie's half brother?

Ah, Debest, wikipedia is a great thing ! You're dead right about the whole snobbery towards boxing though - when you see the number of medals won at World Junior and Senior Championships, the Olympics and our standing in international amateur boxing, its frankly shocking to see how poorly as a sport its covered here in Ireland. Its probably going to take teenager Joe Ward's (almost) inevitable win in the World Championships next year despite being only 17 to really capture the imagination of the Irish public.
