Doctors do ahve a cultural of perscription before treatment.Like I said, "can of worms"
The drug companies do push new drugs and there are many back handers and so called "incentives" for the doctors:
I dont agree with alot of the conduct within this arena, like the amount of animal testing and doctors offering placebo's but there are many good drugs out there and many fantastic medical professionals that are all the positive things that they should be
Depression and mental health are a big subject and a little too controvertial for this board.....

Plecebos are a good thing. They take away the need to actually be on a drug and to see uf teh drug actuallt works.
Animal testing unfortunatly is necessary.
Look at the brain. New drugs and operational proccedures are preformed on rats.
Without this testing Human life and suffereing would be immense. These little creatures have paved teh way for sucessful treatment on humans
