Default New in Ireland - simple question

    Hello everybody,
I recently arrived in Ireland and got a simple question: Why do most ladies do not answer calls from landline phones?

Security mainly, I would have thought.

Possibly eliminates some time-wasters too ...

Back in the old days, they used to have telephones on public streets, where you'd put in money like in a slot machine, and would be able to make a phone call in them. I know, it sounds crazy but that's what they did.

Urgs, we get a bit OT here guys... but seriously:
I mean landline phones can't be switched off, cellphones can, so I really do not get the "security" reason. Do not get me wrong lads&gals I do not want to change the situation (hardly can) I am simply interested in reasons for this, as I am not used to it.

Ye and tell me where I can find one that works. Worse than CIE, at least you can get a bus but where in this god forsaken country could you find a payphone that works when you want one. Girls, you need a new excuse.
