Thumbs down What is it with 'Cork City- The Real Capital'

Are the people that say that aware of how totally and utterly sad and pathetic they are ?.

If it was a joke I could understand but some Cork folk really seem to believe it.

    What a bunch of Langers.

I mean who else would be dumb enough to build a city on a flood plain for Gods sake.

Yeah i have to admit i do find that a bit pathetic alright. It all stems from the fact that up to irish independence dublin was pretty much british ruled, and the majority of its well-to-do residences called themselves british (hence the name "jackeen which itself comes from union jack). Cork being the biggest city outside of dublin that hadnt that british element (outside bandon town) liked to declare itself the real capitol because of far greater percentage of irish citizens per capita.

Don't forget building an airport on a hill so that it gets closed by fog.

I think a sizeable acreage of the city being burnt to the ground in the cause of freedom entitles us to some moral claim to the title if nothing else.
