The Burka isn't part of Islam at all as far as I can remember.
I had a muslim friend who told me that the Burka is about servitude and more to do with Shira Law made up by men to keep their women under control. So France's banning of it was not on the grounds of it being a religious symbol or discrimination against religion of any kind.
Got to love the French though, they don't give a shit if what they do upsets anyone else.

That sarcozy is a bit of a bollocks though but in all seriousness if ppl come to live or visit a country they have to respect that countries beliefs and laws...ii am not sure but is it a total ban on burkas or is it just in the schools
I have lived a life of regrets.

there should be allowances for tolerance in the law, religious or otherwise. but the law of the land must be respected first and foremost.

Some people may think that the more a woman covers, the less freedom she has. But, according to Muslim tradition, it is actually the opposite. Muslim women cover their hair and/or full body for not to grab men's attention and they are not forced, it is their culture.
It is interesting how in Western society women can wear very short skirts but anytime a rape occurs the woman is the one put on trial and one of the first questions is, What was she wearing?
As if burkas should be banned, it is understandable that people in France (or Europe) feel uncomfortable as it is not part of western culture and the local culture should be respected also.
As they say when in Rome do as the Romans do.

The problem is Eastern traditions and western society dont mix at that well and thats where conflicts arise. Not saying muslum ppl shouldnt be allowed in (although im not too fond of some of their traditions) but someone shopping in Tesco wearing a burka doesnt seem right.

Also its the western societies are expected to adopt to suit Eastern traditions and methology whereas when the shoe is on the other foot , Eastern societies would not adopt to suit Western tradition.

Why is it always the West are seen as wrong when they dont feel comfortable with an Eastern tradition while its ok for Easterns countries to not accomodate Western traditions?

    Sincerely,
    Westside.

hope that Arabia's equivilent of Jackie would stand up for us?
