A big problem in Irish driving is that ppl cant drive and are only thought how to pass their test. Speed is a contributing factor too. What your saying about the speed limit on those roads is correct but a speed limit is just that and doesnt mean its safe to travel at the speed limit. The motorist has to exercise good judgement.

Potholes and road conditions in Ireland are shocking. I can think of four ppl i knew straight off the top of my head who have being killed in motorcycle accidents with nothing else involved only the bike and a bad road covered with holes.

Its a sad accident but infortunately there are loads more to come. The authorities are not doing enough here.

You would think with our car taxes they would fix the roads and aunti Gaybo would reduce vthe speed limits at least on bad roads to lower the accidents

Yes, but if it is clearly not safe to drive above a certain speed even in the best conditions etc, that should be the limit. Putting a sign up saying you can go whatever km above that is just stupid and encouraging of stupidity.

There isnt enough being done to ppl who drive bad either im afraid. A relative of mine , speeded through a garda check point on a bike years ago, ended up being chased and crashed at a bend. Ok he was in a bad state, he broke ribs ,wrists , and it was touch and go with his kidneys.Nothing was ever doen to him or no charges pressed and that is wrong plain and simple.I dont care if he is a relative of mine or not. He should have being charged anddealt with.He could have killed otehr ppl and by the way ,he is still suffering a little at times today but nothinmg major.

I know its horrible ppl being killed and i know its horrible having to live with causing an accident in which ppl were killed but getting a slap on the wrist isnt good enough. There are scores of families accross this country who have lost loved ones because of someone acting the clown on the road. There are children who have lost fathers, mothers and sometimes being orphaned. Its just not good enough to gove a person a slap on the wrist for stuff like this.

Im not saying the driver of the car carrying eight ppl caused this but a lot of accidents are 100% avoidable with a little care and consideration for other road users. Like i said.

A horrendous tragedy! From what i have read, this is how it could have occured:
The overloaded Passat clipped a car on a bend, went into a 400 yard straight. In this
straight there would have been a fuss to stop, go back, that was so and so etc.
Driver being distracted by 7 voices, and the car was overloaded-so harder to control!
At the next bend they hit head on with on-coming Corolla. Accident Investigators
would have been on this from first light this morning-road closed etc. They can piece
    together nearly every accident.

Ironically just the other day was the inquest for the four students who died in a crash
last November in Mayo. The driver also survived but she is in a Coma in Dublin.
People have to realise that this can happen so easy!

Your right there Westie a few decades ago they passed an amnesty on the driving tests and just gave one to everyone, no testing no learning just if you applied you got it.

From what I see its those who have been driving for years who are the ones who cant drive. They never indicate and take way too many chances on the roads. Its ridiculous

The only roads i drive the max limit allowed and i will be hinest and say i go abit over but not much are the main duel carraigeways and motorways. Back and secondary roads i stay well within the limit. Its not worth the risk to me or others.

Two weeks ago i drove around a cornor near Kinsale on a back road and a huge farming machine was coming around the cornor and if i had being going the max allowed which was 50 - 60 or something i would have hit it and it wouldnt have being pretty because the spikes on the machine were lowered. He should have had a car in front of him warning ppl to though.

Some ppl are just nasty too.The most dangerous thing i ever saw was as follows.

About 10 years ago i was heading in towards the city on the airport road. There was a red sportscar in front of me and a black jeep behind me and a silver car of some sort behind him. The guy in the jeep over took the silver car behind me first and was right up my arse so i went in abit and he drove on passed me.Then he was right up behind the sports car and the sports car wouldnt pull in to let him pass. He eventually passed the sportscar and got the bright idea of slapping on the brakes to tech us all a lesson. The sports car just missed the back of him, i ended up flying in between the sports car and the ditch praying to christ that the bike would hold and the silver car skidded and went on to the otehr side of the raod abit but not much.

When we got down to the majic roundabout the lights were red and i was going to level this idiot only the guy in the sports car went for him first and the guy in the silver car stepped between the two of them.I stayed on the bike because honestly i wasnt impressed. He was reported by all of us but we heard nothing afterwards.this is dangerous driving ffs.

Its crap like this that causes accidents to.An arrogance on the road.Im going there and thats it and its not good enough.

they just keep getting away with stuff,
    Westside.

PS the guy in the jeep was the oldest of us.About 50.

Car B licence allows you to drive a vehicle with 8 passengers plus yourself making it 9 occupants but each must be wearing a seat belt and the vehicle must be designed to carry that amount, clearly a passat isn't. R.I.P and my sympathys to all concerned
