I didnt read all the threads but seriously we landed on the moon, we put a mirror on it to shoot beams of light at it to messure its distance and titdal effects in more detail. I've been and seen the observatory in action, as Brian Cox also did a documentary about time and a good part of this was about the mirror on the moon as it gives indications as to the speed of the earths rotation on its own axes too.
